Adapting mobile map application designs to map use context: a review and call for action on potential future research themes

The increased use of mobile maps in our highly digital culture has resulted a large variety map users and situations. For applications that engage broad user base feature diverging usage contexts, one-size-fits-all interface designs might result significant usability tradeoffs. To respond to this challenge, changing the design based on context attributes, such as increasing icon sizes for people with impaired vision or using user’s position highlight information are only few many ways can be designed adapted needs their However, there remains clear need research intersections between contexts application adaptation. Therefore, article reviews synthesizes literature adaptation applications. push forward efforts these areas, we propose future themes approaches. We first evaluate options modeling context, which plays part adaptations detecting relevant attributes decisions. then consider dynamic possibilities assess by reviewing HEART framework. conclude offering move suggested approaches from concepts closer practice.
